Nurun Nahar & Hazrat Ali

Location: Southern Bhola, Bangladesh
Sector: Transportation
Support Received: BDT 300,000 (~$2,750) in total grants
Background
Nurun Nahar, a widow, and Hazrat Ali, her brother-in-law and a truck driver with limited means, have long faced the burdens of poverty and loss. Together, they care for their extended families—eight individuals in total—while living in a deteriorating home they cannot afford to repair.
Despite their circumstances, both Nahar and Ali have demonstrated extraordinary resilience and a strong commitment to building a better life for their loved ones.
A Vision for Change
In partnership with our team, Nahar and Ali began to imagine a more sustainable future—one where they could shift from low-wage labor to truck ownership in the transportation sector. Their plan was ambitious: to purchase a truck that could dramatically increase their earning potential.
However, the reality posed a significant challenge. The cost of a truck exceeded BDT 950,000 (~$8,700), far beyond what they could afford alone.
Catalyzing Opportunity
To help them reach their goal, we provided a grant of BDT 150,000 each, for a total of BDT 300,000. They contributed personal savings, secured a loan from a local association, and benefited from favorable financing terms with a truck seller. With all elements in place, they successfully acquired their own truck.
This step not only marked a turning point in their livelihoods but also sparked new opportunities for others.
Impact & Outcomes
• Employment Generation: They have since employed two individuals, contributing to local job creation.
• Income Growth: Their annual income has quadrupled, ensuring far greater stability for both families.
• Asset Ownership: They are on track to fully own the truck, a long-term asset that secures their economic future.
Today, thanks to their hard work and strategic support, Nahar and Ali are well on their way toward financial independence and improved living conditions.

Looking Ahead
This story illustrates the transformative power of targeted capital, community trust, and perseverance. By shifting from precarious labor to business ownership, Nahar and Ali have not only improved their own lives but created ripples of impact in their community.
We are proud to have played a role in their journey and look forward to seeing their continued progress.
